Małopolska takes over the Presidency of South Poland House in Brussels

The coordination of the South Poland House in Brussels’ activities changes on a yearly basis. This year, the ceremony of handing over of the presidency of SPH from the Silesia Region to the Małopolska Region was held in Cinéma Galleries in Brussels.

The Deputy Marshal of Małopolska Tomasz Urynowicz, Deputy Marshal of Silesia Wojciech Kałuża and Marshal of Opolskie Roman Kolek took part in the ceremony. In their speeches, the Marshals stressed the big amount of work that was put into the SPH’s activities by its members in 2018. The Deputy Marshal of Małopolska Tomasz Urynowicz underlined the fact that he would like the SPH to become a kind of “factory” of projects for the environment, communal infrastructure on a regional scale and at the same time, an organisation that will  reinforce the image of the South of Poland abroad.

The Ambassador of Poland Artur Orzechowski, members of the Polish Delegation to the European Committee of the Regions, representatives of Polish and foreign regional offices in Brussel as well as SPH’s sympathisers were amongst the guests at the ceremony.

The projection of the film “Gods”(directed by Łukasz Palkowski, 2014) was one of the highlights of the event. The film presents the circumstances in which professor Zbigniew Religa conducted the first successful heart transplant in Poland in 1985. The film screening was followed by a discussion with professor Andrzej Bochenek who used to work closely with professor Religa. Mr Bochenek received the medal of the Polish Medical Association Gloria Medicine and the Computer Honor Awards medal for his achievements in the field of the development of Polish cardiac surgery. The organisers intended to present the achievements and qualities of the South of Poland from the rarely mentioned perspective of technology and advanced medicine development.
